Public Consumers
There are many overall societal benefits that come from embracing the potential of local sustainable food systems.
Consumers benefit when LFP identifies local sustainable products and producers and makes them more available for purchase and consumption. Consumers also gain valuable knowledge about and a connection to the people who produce the food they eat.
Economic development in our communities is improved as more money is kept in the local economy and additional jobs are created. The economy is further strengthened when LFP facilitates the creation of mutually beneficial linkages among all the stakeholders in the local food system.
Public outreach and education is enriched when LFP addresses local sustainability issues at events, conferences, workshops, and in classrooms. We also offer courses on topics related to local sustainable food systems. In addition, LFP staff members regularly write about and comment on local sustainable food systems.
Students become engaged in learning more about and adopting the benefits of local sustainable food when it becomes available at their institution. LFP is committed to working with students to develop standards and identify food that reflects their values.
Show your friends, classmates, co-workers, and family that you have gone the distance to support local sustainable food systems by getting involved.
