Ecovillage, Urban Composting, Local Sustainable Food: the Roots of a Greener Future
Three Projects, Three Women Rewarded by the Yves Rocher Foundation

Montreal, December 20th, 2007: The Yves Rocher Foundation announced the Canadian winners of the 2008 Women of the Earth Awards. Each year, three women who have contributed largely to the development of a greener world are recognized and honoured for their efforts. In order to support the continued advancement of such innovative ecological projects, the Foundation awards three prizes: $7,000 for first place, $5,000 for second place and $3,000 for third place.
It is Incredible What Women Can Do to Benefit Nature!

The three winning projects all offer concrete solutions to actual environmental challenges. The grand prize winner is Nicole Fafard, co-founder and President of the TerraVie Association for its project, Ecovillage and Protected Area at Montcalm in Quebec’s Laurentian region. The second place winner is Valérie Koporek, mastermind behind the flourishing Centre de Compostage Communautaire Tournesol (Tournesol Community Composting Centre) in Montreal’s central Jeanne-Mance district. Third place goes to Lori Stahlbrand from Ontario for her exemplary local sustainable food project, Local Food Plus.

"The Yves Rocher Foundation's environmental values are brought to life through the Women of the Earth Awards, which help sustain green initiatives that are truly inspiring", explains Christina Hane, Communications & PR Director, Yves Rocher North America.

On an International Scale

The first prize winner will represent Canada in the Women of the Earth International Ceremony held in France on International Woman’s Day. This event brings together the winners from participating countries to compete for a grand prize of 10,000 euros.
